Flat Roof – EDPM Upgrade

I made a previous post about my flat roof where I covered it with fibreglass – Flat Roof Area

This unfortunately had begun to fail and was becoming ‘spongy’ in places and was also once again leaking inside, so using some of the funds from the recent sale of my condo in the USA I decided to have it recovered with EDPM rubber.

I had contacted a number of roofers over the previous months, most of whom were not really interested in EDPM, so I eventually settled on South East Rubber Roofing also known as Rubber Roofing Essex who are based in Rainham in Essex.

Having agreed a price and scope of the work, they started work on Monday 25th September.

It had been raining over the weekend, so they needed to dry the roof out a bit before they started

They made great progress on the first day, putting down the sticky ‘undercoat’ and covering the garage and shower room roofs.

The seams all still needed to be welded, as did the various corners and upstands,

Some more views of the roof at the end of the first day.

They returned on the Tuesday and completed the main covering of the large flat roof area.

On Wednesday they covered the small flat roof area at the end of my lounge/dining room area and completed most of the seam ‘welding’

They returned on the Friday to finish off the welding and apply a few additional finishing touches.

I completely failed to take any further progress photos, however here are some more recent shots of the finished roof, following yet more rain.

This last shot shows a pipe that I had them install to allow me to run cables to my office area, this finally allowed me to run a length of 10GB fibre cable from my loft to my office.

In all I am very happy with the installation and intend to install solar panels on it in the near future.
