Shut the Front Door!

Our front door is still the original one that was fitted to the house back in 1935, so we decided it was well overdue for an upgrade.

There are some sizeable gaps for the wind to come in, thanks to the door warping over the years, plus the lock has been replaced a few times and is not exactly going to prevent anyone from forcing their way in due to the ageing state of the doorframe.

We decided that we were well overdue for a replacement, so found a suitable supplier and ordered one. We had a bit os a palaver with the paint – we had to supply it, in order to avoid any comeback should the door be delivered and then we don’t like the colour. However, The local Dulux decorator centre seemed incapable of supplying Sikkens paints despite them owning the company!

In the end we found a paint supplier just down the road from the door supplier who were able to supply the paint of our choice and then the door company collected it from them once it was ready.

We also had a few issues with the door fitter coming around for a site survey, several forgotten appointments, then he was on holiday before he finally turned up.

All that over, we finally had a fitting date in the diary and everything went ahead as planned on the 17th September.

The new door furniture was attached to the door, the letter box had already been pre-fitted.

  The old door removed.

It’s a bit draughty in here!

Then a new door frame was installed and the door hung.

Architrave fitted along with fitting the new locks.

Doorbell ringer re-attached and the job is complete.

Looks pretty smart with the white paint.

This is the old door and associated frame and architrave ready for the dump.

We just needed to have the alarm company to visit in order to re-fit the front door sensor that was removed when the old door was taken out.
