Redecorating Part 2 – Hall Stairs and Landing Plastering

Tuesday 28th February
The work on the Hall, Stairs and Landing started whilst we were waiting for the plasterer to start on the Thursday.

My wife performed the majority of the paper stripping during the day whilst I was at work, I then helped out in the evenings.

The area around the shower room door being particularly bad, needed the old plaster removing back to brickwork.

Here you can see the state of the walls up the stairs once the paper has been removed.

A picture of me half way up a ladder removing wallpaper from the ceiling.

The hall stairwell with all of the wallpaper finally removed.

Light fitting loosened so that plastering can happen right up to the wires.

Landing area stripped as well.

Monday 6th March

No plasterer today – he was at a wedding over the weekend and is feeling sick (more like hung over ;o)

Tuesday 7th March
Plasterer is back, and starts some preparatory work on the hall, stairs and landing area.

More bonding on the landing

Wednesday 8th March

Skim coat was applied to most of the hall, stairs and landing

Thursday 9th March

The alcove on the stairs is skimmed – the plasterer was doing his utmost to persuade us to cover it over so that he could have an easy life – no dice here I’m afraid, my wife needs somewhere to display a glass pot that we have (nowhere else to put it).

Friday 10th March
Finally finished in the hall and around the shower door.

I am less than impressed with how he chose to leave the old plaster above the door and then pack out the surround at the rear of the door to a thickness of around half an inch.

This will require some serious adaptation in order to fit the architrave.
