Garage conversion Part 17 – Carpet Fitting

Wednesday 12 October

The Carpet suppliers on their quote for the carpet were overcharging for the carpet by £10.00 a square metre and also charging a small fortune for grippers, underlay and fitting, so we decided to simply order the carpet (at the correct price) from them and arrange our own fitting.

I ordered some Cloud 9 Super Contract underlay via Amazon marketplace, on 26th September that arrived the next day.

The carpet finally arrived on Wednesday 5th October, unfortunately the carpet fitter we had found was not available to fit the carpet until today.

All ready to go – carpet, thresholds and underlay.

Gripper rods installed using mastic as well as nails.

Next was the underlay, which is spray glued in place at each end.

View from the window.

Then finally the carpet is cut to size, stretched and trimmed.

In all it only took him 2 hours from start to finish.

Here it is looking much better after being vacuumed for the first time.

The carpet is Lano Smartstrand Gentle Bliss Acorn 220 and is a fully synthetic carpet, but it feels like silk underfoot – we are very pleased with it.

This view also shows the threshold we chose which has an antique bronze effect and will be used on all of the thresholds throughout the house.

Another view with slightly different lighting.
