Garage Conversion Part 6 – Front Wall

Saturday 7th May

Work had pretty much ground to a halt awaiting the delivery of the window, eventually John decided to go ahead with building the front wall anyway and then come back to fit the window.

 First the garage door was removed

 Then the surrounding timber

 Next a layer of rubber was installed as some additional damp proof protection.

 One lintel in place

 Two lintels in place, these are reinforced concrete 6″x9″ and 2.4m long

 Another layer of rubber for damp proofing

 Wall construction begins in earnest.

The wall was built using 440x215x300mm Thermalite blocks and each one weighs about 16kg!

Monday 16th May

The window finally arrives

 First the window sill is installed

 Here are all the panes of glass ready to be installed

 Window in place and the first pane of glass fitted.
