Week 38 (September 18 – September 24) – C2 Fall Team Challenge

Monday morning rest day apart from a long walk with the dog.

The C2 Fall Team Challenge is now well into its first week and I have so far only banked 7,247m from my warm up sessions over the weekend – a slow start this year.

Tuesday morning rowing, Half marathon, low heart rate ‘fat burner’ with a burst at the end to finish under 1 hour 40 minutes.

Tuesday evening archery, fun shoot, 10 different ways of scoring, the shoot was enjoyed by everyone.

Wednesday morning rowing, 1,024m (4:58.0) warm up, then the C2 workout of the day was a 5,000m time trial.

Went out to with too ambitious a goal, stopped twice, finished nearly a minute down on my PB. Fatigue from yesterday’s half marathon, a bad night and the tail end of a cold all contributed. 2,233m (11:14.7) cool down and stretching.

Thursday morning in at the work gym, 2,000m (10:14.8) warm up, then 10,000m rate capped at 18spm for best time.

I was hoping for sub 40 minutes, but that wasn’t happening. This was a real leg burner. 2,239m (10:56.7) cool down and stretching, shower and breakfast before heading to my desk.

Tuesday evening rowing, thunder just before the session so I sat down on the erg and bashed out 8,516m (36:19.2) at a variety of rates and paces before finally heading out on the water with Jonathan in a fine 2x.

I was steering, we needed to work on balance, so that was the main focus for the short session (6,760m).

Friday was another rest day

Saturday morning rowing, 7,013m (32:50.1) warm up for masters rowing, 8+, #7 seat bow side again, only made it to the motorway bridge before #2 seat shoe came loose and we had to go in to sort it out (3,907m).

Since the session was so short I came back in and started a steady state row, this turned into 50 minutes of 18spm, another 15Km in just over an hour.

Walked into Staines for my usual Thai spicy chicken and rice before heading back to the boat house.

Saturday afternoon leisure rowing, in my 1x, ‘Dark Horse’, lumpy water was not the best for building confidence (6,421m).

Sunday morning rowing, 5,509m (26:42.5) warm up for masters rowing, interrupted to help with a boat. Masters rowing 4-, stroke seat, 18spm winter training (9,176m).

Sunday afternoon archery, we were hosting a double header against Laleham Archery Club and Aquarius Archery Club.

The weather turned bad just as we started shooting nd several of our newer members packed up before the end of the first dozen.

It brightened up before the end of the 50m distance and then remained dry for the remainder of the shoot.

As expected, we lost both of the made score competitions, but won both of the handicap competitions.

79,642m this week for the C2 Fall Team Challenge, which added to the 7,247m from last week puts me at 86,889m
