Week 17 (April 24 – April 30) – National Parks, Multiple PBs

Monday morning rowing, feeling a little beaten up after the weekend, so I decided to have a recovery row, 2,000m (10:24.0) warm up, then 10,000m UT2

Tuesday morning, I was in at work early as I was going out with the leisure crew in the evening, 2,000m (9:23.3) warm up, then I decided to do a 500m sprint and knocked over a second off my PB.

caught my breath, then did a 10,000m UT1 workout.

2,241m (11:09.5) cool down and stretching.

Tuesday evening finished work, wandered over to the boat club, changed and then just sat on the Erg for 8,007m (36:35.4) as a warm up.

Leisure rowing, leisure 4x stroke and #3 seats, Desborough Challenge workout session 9,9192m of steady state rowing.

Wednesday was taken as a rest day following Tuesday’s exertions.

This morning I decided to give the 2K another bash – I had knocked nearly 3 seconds off it last Thursday afternoon having done 1 hour at 28spm for 15K in the morning, so wanted to see what I could do when I was a bit fresher.

I had a bad night, I went to bed too late, then woke up practically every hour, then up at 06:10 into the office for 06:45 and down to the gym.

2,000m (9:40.3) warm up, then psyched myself up for a 2K time trial. I did not set a pace boat, but was aiming for a 1:45/500m average to get me to sub 7.

Didn’t quite manage to hold the required pace, although I was pretty close, I smashed my time from last Thursday by 7 seconds and am now only 4 seconds away from sub 7 minutes.

The screen showed 7:04.6 when I finished (should have taken a screenshot) rounded up once again by C2 logbook – grrr.

If I had been at the club with the masters crew around me, Ego, adrenaline, cheering, coaching, etc would all have pushed me that little bit harder and taken me over the line, I am still very happy with the result, sub 7 is definitely happening this year!

2,014m (10:16.5) cool down, some stretching with a couple of others who had been doing strength/core exercises before getting back on the erg for 4,010m (20:01.9) of ‘feet out’ rowing to help with technique.

Finished off with some more stretching, a shower, English breakfast in the canteen, then up to my desk for a 09:00 call.

Thursday evening after work I walked over to the rowing club, changed and then sat on the erg for just over an hour 13,136m (1:00:02.3) and then went out for leisure rowing, leisure 4x again, it was raining hard during my erg session, however it cleared up for our outing on the river and we managed a leisurely 6,933m.

Friday was taken as another rest day to recover from Thursday.

Saturday morning masters rowing, 3,017m (14:00.1) warm up, 8+ #6 seat, warm up, steady state and power ladders, 10,071m.

Preparations were in full swing resetting the clubhouse after last night’s Remenham Dinner for tonight’s boat club dinner dance. I walked into Staines and bought some spicy Thai chicken and rice from the market and sat by the river to eat it.

after arriving back at the boat house I sat on the erg for 1,309m (5:21.1) before switching to a different Erg (previous one disconnected me) for an additional 2,462mm (10:06.4) warm up before going out in a leisure double, bow seat, this was a warm up, then steady state to the botton and then various power pieces on the way back to the club house for 6,582m.

Saturday evening was the boat club dinner dance, a very enjoyable event with a live band and dancing.

Sunday morning 3,022m (13:53.3) warm up, then out with masters rowing, 4- stroke seat warm up, steady state and power pieces for 9,385m

Walked into Staines and had McDonnald’s for ‘brunch’, came back and sat on the erg for 4,132m before going out with the Desborough crew for another training session, this one focused on technique, power pieces and starts for 7,427m.

During the month of April I managed a total of 118 hours of exercise, walked 143km, climbed 295 flights of stairs, skied 5km, rowed 367km on the Erg and 78km on the water.

By the end of the month my weight was 14 Stone 9lb (205lb/92kg), no gain or loss, seems I am stuck at this weight.

This is marked the end of the C2 season.
