Week 33 (August 15 – August 21) – Dog Days, Skiing, Archery

Week 3 of the Concept 2 Dog Days of Summer challenge, so 30,000m requirement this week.

Monday morning skiing, 10000m (47:59.4) for the challenge, which is an automatic PB as it was the first time I have done this distance, I was determined to finish below 48 minutes, final 2K was 9:06.5, which knocked 6 seconds off my 2K PB, then a 1124m (6:43.1) cool down.

Monday evening I did 10000m (44:58.4) rowing while watching Battlestar Galactica S01E08, then a 2235m cool down (10:17.8).

Tuesday, calisthenics pull day, a repeat of last weeks session.

  • Inverse Knee Rings Row – 3 x 3 x 5
  • Rings Row – 3 x 3 x 2
  • Rings Scapular Pull – 5 x 0:30
  • Band Assisted Rings Pull Up (Purple) – 3 x 3 x 2
  • Band Assisted Rings Chin Up (Purple) – 3 x 3 x 2
  • Angled Rings Row – 5 x 10
  • Static Rings Hold – 5 x 0:10
  • Various Isometric Rings Holds – 0:10 each

Tuesday evening archery, I didn’t go as I had a migraine earlier in the day, probably from over doing it which messed with my vision, so I decided to have a break.

Wednesday morning skiing, 10000m (48:11.6) for the challenge, didn’t quite finish below 48 minutes this time, but I was not pushing as hard for that time today, then a 1127m (6:32.3) cool down.

Wednesday evening I did 10000m (44:58.4) rowing while watching Battlestar Galactica S01E09, then a 2235m cool down (10:17.8).

Thursday morning I was supposed to do do my calisthenics push day, but on my morning walk I had some blurred vision that could have been the start of another migraine, so decided  to rest up instead.

Thursday evening I did 10000m (45:34.1) rowing while watching Battlestar Galactica S01E10, then a 2235m cool down (10:31.9), this completes the rowing part of my Dog Days of Summer challenge for this week with 36,709m. I was unlikely to find another opportunity this week for this workout, so decided to just get it out of the way.

Friday morning skiing, 10000m (46:18.2) for the challenge, knocked nearly 2 minutes of Monday’s PB, maintained around 2:18 pace, last 2K was almost under 9 minutes at 9:02.1, which is in itself 4 seconds faster than my PB from Monday, then a 1127m (6:32.3) cool down. This completes the skiing part of my Dog Days of Summer challenge for this week with 33,376m.

Friday evening I drove to Newent in Gloucestershire with my son to stay with my mother and collect my daughter who had been there since Wednesday, the drive took about 2 and a half hours hitting about 30 minutes of traffic just the other side of Oxford.

Saturday morning I persuaded my son to come with me on a walk ‘around the block’, we set off at about 05:50 walked the 9km circular route at a reasonably leisurely pace, took 1 hour and 47 minutes and we were back in time for breakfast.

Unfortunately my son developed a blister on his foot during the walk and since he had been awake since around 03:00, he decided not to come on a hike with my daughter and I later that day.

For the hike we drove to the British Camp car park, then walked up to the Herefordshire Beacon and across to the Eastnor Obelisk before circling back to the car park.

The hike was just under 9km, took in 319m of elevation and took us two and a half hours to complete before heading back to my mothers for dinner and then we all drove back to London.

Sunday started with the usual hour long dog walk and then a Short Metric archery shoot against Aquarius Archery Club.

This was supposed to be a home shoot for us, but yet again we were let down by Schools Plus who manage the bookings for Harefield Academy so ended up running the shoot from Aquarius‘ home ground at Fortis Green covered reservoir.

We only managed to take 4 representatives from Harefield Archers, so we were not overly surprised that we lost both the made score and handicap score contests to the 14 strong team from Aquarius.
