Week 37 (September 11 – September 17) – C2 Fall Team Challenge

Monday morning rest day, just a long walk with the dog

Tuesday morning rowing, 2,000m (10:34.7) warm up, 10,012m low heart rate ‘fat burner’ conditioning recovery workout whilst watching episodes of Andromeda.

No cool down as the whole session was low heart rate, so just finished with some stretching.

Wednesday morning not feeling too great, probably coming down with a cold, so had another rest day.

Thursday morning, in the office gym, 2,000m (10:06.6) warm up, 10 laps of the C2 real time loop, most of it at around 2:05/500m pace, then dropped to about 2:30 for a lap before a lap at 2:00/500m and a final lap at 2:10/500m.

2,232m (12:12.2) cool down and stretching before a shower, breakfast and up to my desk.

Thursday evening rowing, fine 2x, bow seat with Mark F, first part of the session, SpeedCoach stopped recording when we stopped and chatted for too long (2,431m).

Restarted the SpeedCoach and set off again for an additional 8,738m, most of the session was at 22spm, although once we had sorted out the steering and balance we were up to 26spm and really motoring.

Friday morning still not feeling great, so another rest day.

Today is also the start of the C2 Fall Team Challenge to Row, Ski or Ride as many meters as you can for your team between 15 September and 15 October (not the best start for me)

Saturday morning masters rowing, 2,232m (10:37.7) warm up (I was running a little late so had to cut the warm up short),

8+ #7 seat, low stroke rate technical session, unfortunately the handles on blades we were using had seen better days, that combined with my hands not being hardened to bow side rowing, tore them up somewhat (13,536m).

Wandered into Staines for Thai spicy chicken and rice before heading back to the boat club.

Saturday afternoon leisure rowing in my 1x ‘Dark Horse’ more confidence building, stroke rate around 24spm and some at 28-30spm, still concentrating on trying to lengthen the stroke (8,351m).

Sunday morning masters rowing, 5,015m (23:48.3) warm up, then 4- stroke seat, almost the entire session was steady state rowing at 18spm for winter endurance practice.

Back on June 11, I reported on our exploits in the 1,000m races of Reading Regatta Day 2 in our coxless four (well worth the read if you have not had the chance – it is a real nail biter ;o).

At the end of the day, we had no idea who had won the race, no times were posted, yet the 3 races afterwards, before the meet was abandoned due to a thunderstorm, all had their times posted and winners announced.

I was handed the above certificate yesterday by Ben, our bow steersman, who had entered us in the Regatta as he had received four of them from the Reading Regatta Committee.

It appears that we were deemed to have won our race and had been awarded a finalists certificate in lieu of competing in the final due to the cancellation.

Sunday afternoon archery, double header against Laleham Archery Club and Aquarius Archery Club being hosted by my club Harefield Archers at our home grounds.

It started to rain just as we had finished setting up, I delayed the start as much as I could but ultimately we need to get going so shooting in the rain it was.

Several of the newer archers packed up after about two ends, not enjoying the damper side of the sport.

The rain eventually stopped towards the end of shooting at the 50m distance and the sun actually came out.

By the end of the afternoon’s shooting we were all dry again.

Laleham and Aquarius both won the made score sides of the competition, but Harefield won both of the handicap competitions.
