Week 22 (May 29 – June 04) – National Parks Challenge, SkiEg Performance Series, Senior Mens Crew

Bank Holiday Monday, senior men’s (Met Crew), 20,11m (9:47.9) warm up on the erg. 4- #2 seat, warm up, steady state to the bridge, then a 2K ‘time trial’ piece to the bottom (7:09.0),

row back up to the Lammas then a 2K piece to the bottom (7:17.2),

up and in (11,840m), for reference the stream was 36.620m3/s and both pieces were done with the stream.

Came back home, mowed the lawn then spent the rest of the afternoon dismantling a greenhouse.

Tuesday morning rest day, feeling beaten up from the 3 day weekend’s rowing activities, I took the dog for an hour long walk instead.

Tuesday evening archery, first night of outdoor target shooting, set up targets at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 yards so we could potentially shoot various Warwick rounds (2 dozen at each of two distances) however it took longer than expected to set up the field and with the cloud cover we lost the light earlier than expected, plus it was taking quite a while to locate all of the missed arrows due to the relatively high winds. I did manage to obtain a ballpark sight mark for 80 yards though.

Wednesday morning skiing, I only have today left to complete the series, Regatta OTW training has been taking over my life, so today it is for the other workouts.

1,000m (5:21.4) warm up, 28 seconds faster than last time, so I may keep this one, then into the 2,000m time trial.

2.3 seconds short of my PB! Considering I was fading fast on this one I am very happy with that result.

Sat and recovered my breath and let my heart rate settle down again for 10 minutes and then onto the 1,000m time trial, I had decided that the warm up 1K was not a true representation.

Started well, but started to fade from 200m, hung in there and completed it 18.2 seconds off my PB, considering I had only just done a 2K TT that was only 2 seconds off my PB, the first half of which was 4:04.3, I will take that.

Sat and recovered for another 10 minutes before hitting the 30 second time trial.

This one is just flat out for the whole 30 seconds and try not to collapse, finished 2m short of my PB, which considering the other TTs this morning is pretty good going.

Recovered my breath for another 5 minutes, then finished off with a 1,122m (7:00.9) cool down.

This completes the May edition of the SkiErg Performance Series.

Thursday morning rowing, this was onsite at work as I was going out on the water later on. 2,000m (10:19.3) warm up, then I decided to do some laps of the endless loop on the ErgData app.

10 laps of the 1,000m endless loop on the C2 ErgData app, alternating laps at harder and easier paces for a total of 42 minutes and 10,009m.

1,123m (6:27.9) cool down and stretching, off to shower, breakfast in the canteen and up to my desk.

Thursday evening rowing 5,012m (24:05.3) warm up, then out on the river for a short piece. Senior Men’s 4-, #2 seat, warm up, steady state, race start, steady state, race finish (6,717m), then de-rig and put the boat on the trailer ready for Met Regatta on Saturday.

Saturday morning was Met Regatta and the Desborough Challenge and Sunday was the second day of the Met Regatta, all will be covered in separate posts.

During the month of May I managed a total of 155 hours of exercise, walked 260km, climbed 350 flights of stairs, skied 12km, rowed 293km on the Erg and 188km on the water.

By the end of the month my weight was 14 Stone 6lb (202lb/91kg), a loss of 3lb.
