Week 20 (May 15 – May 21) – National Parks Challenge

Monday morning, rest day, although I did take the dog for a one hour walk.

Tuesday morning rowing, 2,000m (10:27.3) warm up, then a very sedate 10,000m that was interrupted by a Tesco delivery with just over 2,000m to go.

Tuesday evening archery, clout night, taught our newer archers all about how to shoot clout and everyone had a great time, I scored with each of my two bows, however I only has 1 or 2 scoring arrows with each for totals of 3 and 4 points which is a long way from my PB of 40!

Wednesday morning rowing, 2,000m (10:30.9) warm up, then a relatively slow UT2 10,000m, heart rate never reached 110 bpm.

Thursday morning, I came into work to make going out on the water this evening easier, 2,000m (9:54.5) warm up and then I was persuaded to do the morning workout with th eothers in the work gym, which this morning was a spin class. 35 minutes and a lot of sweat later I had burned 391 calories.

I sat back on the rowing machine and rowed out a further 5,015m (25:27.0) as a cool down and then some stretching, shower, breakfast in the canteen and up to my desk for an 09:00 call.

Lunch time walk into Staines after lunch in the canteen and then over to the boat club after work. 6,172m (30:03.5) warm up to kill time before masters evening rowing session in a fine 4x, I was in the stroke seat.

Unfortunately we were seriously overweight for the boat, it is supposedly rated as 85Kg, but in reality is closer to 75Kg and half of us in the boat are over 90Kg, so the boat’s name is only just above the water and this makes correct oar depths very difficult. We did some technical drills, steady state and a power pyramid (6,943m).

Friday I decided to have another rest day and didn’t even take the dog on a particularly long walk as he was having his teeth cleaned at the vet’s today and was not allowed any food.

Saturday morning masters rowing, 3,012m (13:43.9) warm up then out in my 1x ‘Dark Horse’ for the first time since a tree jumped out on me on the canal in Gloucester back in February, so started off quite ‘wobbly’ finished with a couple of pieces at 30spm after regaining the confidence, one of around 1.2Km from the top to the church and then a second one bridge to bridge (11,498m).

Went back out for a second session again in the 1x, the conditions had changed and water was more ‘lumpy’ than earlier, so didn’t feel like pushing the rate, concentrated on technique instead (4,663m).

Walked into Staines and bought my usual Thai spicy chicken and rice for lunch which I ate back at the boat club whilst waiting for the leisure rowers to arrive.

Saturday afternoon leisure session, leisure 4x stroke seat, which consisted of a warm up, technical pieces and then some race starts (4,986m).

Came home and then mowed the lawn that had not been touched since I did some strimming a few weeks back. In total this took me around 2 and a half hours, I walked over 10Km with nearly 24,000 steps and burned 1,100 calories – I should sleep well tonight!

Sunday morning masters rowing, 5,022m (22:59.5) warm up, then out in the quad again for some technical pieces and sone steady state (10,801m).

Walked into Staines and has a cooked breakfast at The George before heading back for the leisure session.

Sunday afternoon leisure session, 3,015m (14:28.3) warm up and then out in a leisure quad, stroke seat, which consisted of a warm up, technical pieces and then some race starts just like Saturday (3,662m).
