Week 27 (July 03 – July 09) – North Wales, Conwy Castle, ParkRun

Not a huge amount of dedicated exercise this week, but then I was on holiday and taking a break from it all.

I did take my rings, resistance bands and skipping rope with me, but couldn’t find a suitable location nearby for the rings and to be honest really did not feel like exercising most days.

I took the dog on a modified version of the beach walk from last week every day, by taking the promenade rather than the beach itself which turned it into a 5km loop.

On the Monday my wife started to come down with some type of cold that left her feeling like she had been hit by a bus, however we still decided to go ahead with our planned trip to the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

Tuesday, my wife was feeling even worse so she stayed at home while I took my son Zach and daughter Thea to Conwy Castle.

Wednesday, was a bit of a chill day although we did go for a swim in the resort pool in the afternoon.

Thursday Zach, Thea and I all went on a hike loop from Penisa taking in the Dyserth Waterfall, a distance of 13.41km including an elevation gain of 436m.

This was a most enjoyable day out and a great bonding session for all three of us.

I was also bitten by a Horse Fly by my right elbow, I felt it bite, but managed to brush it off before it managed to drink any of my blood.

Friday we took a drive of about an hour and a half to King Arthurs Labyrinth, a fun underground experience with some slightly alternative views on the Arthurian legend.

Saturday morning I had come down whatever the cold was that had hit my wife and felt like I had been run over. I popped a bunch of pain killers and took the dog for his walk.

I had been talking about doing the local Nova Prestatyn ParkRun, since before we came up with my children both primed for walking it together and me running. Zach decided he did not want to do it, but Thea was still game and I thought I could probably manage to walk around.

I had some toast and peanut butter and headed off for the start which was about a 20 minute drive away. We arrived and then struggled with the parking meter and ultimately missed the start of the run by a few seconds.

Thea said she was fine if I wanted to go faster and leave her to walk at her own pace, so I set off at a suitable trot, which as usual was way too fast for the first km and suffered slightly for the remainder of the run.

I finished with a time of 31:37 which placed me 77/127 overall, 49/61 Male, 6/8 VM50-54 and 48.18% by age grade. Considering how I felt when I woke up, I was very pleased with this result. Thea finished 117th with a very respectable time of 44:13.

After returning home and having a shower, I promptly fell asleep for an hour and a half, not really surprising after that effort and only 4 hours of sleep the night before!

Sunday was another chill day with a walk along Rhyl Promenade in the afternoon.
