Week 15 (Apr 11 – Apr 17) – World Erg, April Fools and Park Run

Only a week into my gym membership, and already not convinced I will keep it up.

I have recently been reading books on calisthenics, and body weight based exercise and think I will try and follow this as a strength training regime, rather than weights.

I may still use the gym for access to decent pull up bars, although most calisthenics can be practiced at home with little or no equipment.

Most of the exercise for the week consisted of 30 minute walks with the dog, 2km warmup rows, 10Km distance rows and then 2-3km cool down rows.

Completed World Erg Challenge on 15 April with at total of 455,804m coming 4th in the Dark Horse team and 182nd worldwide, Team Dark Horse finished 9th.

15 April was also the last day of April Fools’ Challenge, with a 15Km requirement for the final day.

Saturday morning involved a 5.4km walk with the dog, 5.7km ride to Northala Fields, 5km ParkRun, 5.4km ride home again.

I had set myself a goal of 30 minutes for the ParkRun and managed to complete it in a time of 29:56, so just inside my target time.

This placed me 118/267 overall, 85/129 male runners, 12/14 VM50-54 and 50.50% by age grade.

After arriving back home and relaxing I felt physically drained and did not really want to do anything for most of the day, I believe most of it was probably due to low blood sugar as I had not eaten anything prior to all of the exercise and then mainly ate a protein based meal that would take a while to actually provide any uplift.

After a few snacks in the afternoon, plenty of water and having dinner I was fine once again.

I spent Sunday afternoon making a set of stacking plyo boxes.
