I recently decided to make a workbench for my garage so that I actually had somewhere to put my Mini Mill, and can also hold my Mellor Lathe<\/a>\u00a0that I bought on\u00a0ebay<\/a>\u00a0some time back for the bargain price of \u00a3100.00.<\/p>\n

I made use of a design championed by Steve Ramsey on his YouTube channel Woodworking for Mere Mortals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I designed it in Sketchup<\/a> first, to work out how much wood I needed to buy, and then bought the wood and constructed the real thing.<\/p>\n

I have yet to add the shelf, but that can happen some other day.<\/p>\n

I also have yet to relocate the lathe, but since the bed alone, without the saddle, \u00a0weighs over 90Kg (200lbs), and there is not a huge amount of space for manoeuvering I will wait until I have someone to help me lift it.<\/p>\n

Next step is wiring up the electric supply from the house – 4mm Armoured cable further protected by Unistrut to a secondary consumer unit in the “workshop”, one breaker for lights and another for sockets. This is further protected back at the main consumer unit in the house by a 16A RCBO. I will wire up radial circuits on 4mm T+E (twin and earth) for the sockets and 1.2mm T+E for the lights.<\/p>\n

I may yet put up some OSB on the walls as it is will be easier for attaching sockets and any other items I would like to be easily available, even if I just use it for mounting the consumer unit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
