{"id":40,"date":"2015-09-10T19:50:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-10T18:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/workshop\/2015\/09\/10\/recent-pc-and-non-pc-purchases\/"},"modified":"2021-05-24T10:55:22","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T09:55:22","slug":"recent-pc-and-non-pc-purchases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/workshop\/2015\/09\/recent-pc-and-non-pc-purchases.html","title":{"rendered":"Recent PC and non PC Purchases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have recently returned from our family holiday in Orlando Florida, where as usual I used the US trip as an excuse to stock up on a few items that are cheaper, or simply not available on this side of the pond.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.electrostaticmagic.co.uk\/\">Electrostaticmagic<\/a>\u00a0want \u00a3239.00 ($370.00) for what looks like a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frost.co.uk\/hotcoat-powder-coating-gun.html\">Frost<\/a>\u00a0kit that you can buy direct for \u00a3124.96 ($194.00), which is still rather more than I was willing to pay.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So the first item on my shopping list was an air assisted Powder Coating system from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harborfreight.com\/10-30-psi-powder-coating-system-94244.html\">Harbor Freight<\/a>\u00a0at $65.99 (\u00a342.50) along with some Black, Red White and Yellow media at $5.99 (\u00a33.80) each for 16oz (453g).<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-ggCYaQvogcw\/VfGsvcsbo7I\/AAAAAAAAB1U\/pvcR_s0Qz8Y\/s1600\/PowderCoat1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-ggCYaQvogcw\/VfGsvcsbo7I\/AAAAAAAAB1U\/pvcR_s0Qz8Y\/s320\/PowderCoat1.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Although this is a 110V\/60Hz unit, I will run it off my 110V\/50Hz site transformer and I am entirely confident that it will work just fine, just like many of my other US bought 110V tools do.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>There are also a bunch of potential upgrades for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.harborfreight.com\/10-30-psi-powder-coating-system-94244.html\">Harbor Freight<\/a>\u00a0version detailed over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diyaudio.com\/forums\/construction-tips\/138313-powder-coating-cheap.html\">diyAudio<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Next up was a load of imperial taps, 44 in total, ranging from 1\/4-28 to 15\/16-16 for $29.99 (\u00a319.51), the set included standard, spiral and roll taps for many of the smaller sizes.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The main reason for the purchase was for the 15\/16-16 spiral tap that this is the same thread as on the Roton ballscrew nuts, and this was one of the cheapest ways of buying one.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sbc6SKO4RZU\/VfHE59RJuKI\/AAAAAAAAB1k\/ik4E881SpuY\/s1600\/taps.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sbc6SKO4RZU\/VfHE59RJuKI\/AAAAAAAAB1k\/ik4E881SpuY\/s320\/taps.JPG\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>I also bought a set of 7 pipe thread taps ranging from 1\/16-27 to 1-11 1\/2 for $39.99 (\u00a326.00) as these are always handy for compression type fittings, many of which I have on various parts of my <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/beachbuggy\/\">Beach Buggy<\/a> oil and fuel lines.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-rzcowLoAioE\/VfHFrXCK0JI\/AAAAAAAAB1s\/sGJuRccR4Io\/s1600\/taps2.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-rzcowLoAioE\/VfHFrXCK0JI\/AAAAAAAAB1s\/sGJuRccR4Io\/s320\/taps2.JPG\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>I bought a 1&#8243; toolmakers vice from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">ebay<\/a>\u00a0seller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/usr\/jtsmachinery\">jtsmachinery<\/a> for $25.95 (\u00a316.88) to go with the 2&#8243; one I brought back last year.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-qIyn6445WlE\/VfHK7T42EII\/AAAAAAAAB2Q\/bM-cc0PZmtA\/s1600\/1invice.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-qIyn6445WlE\/VfHK7T42EII\/AAAAAAAAB2Q\/bM-cc0PZmtA\/s320\/1invice.JPG\" width=\"320\" height=\"244\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>I also bought a few other milling cutters and arbours from the same seller.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>On my return I paid a visit to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aldi.co.uk\/\">Aldi<\/a>\u00a0as they had sent out a flyer that said their Multi purpose circular saw was back in stock at \u00a329.99 ($46.50) and having read good things about it on <a href=\"http:\/\/mikesworkshop.weebly.com\/work-zone-multi-purpose-saw.html\">Mike Cox&#8217;s<\/a> site decided I would buy one.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-HzsM5-Qk0jI\/VfHHCaTYebI\/AAAAAAAAB14\/90RoDxbtjwE\/s1600\/saw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-HzsM5-Qk0jI\/VfHHCaTYebI\/AAAAAAAAB14\/90RoDxbtjwE\/s320\/saw.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"258\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>It came with a flyer for additional blades at \u00a312.00 ($18.60)for 2 or \u00a317.00 ($26.35) for 3 with \u00a36.00 ($9.30) P&amp;P!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now that sounded extremely expensive for replacement blades, so a quick search on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">ebay<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/\">aliexpress<\/a>\u00a0showed up some 110mm 40 tooth 20mm bore slitting saws suitable for up to 10K rpm for $3.70 (\u00a32.45) each with free shipping, which to my mind is a much more sensible price.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Whilst I was there I also bought a mini toaster oven for \u00a319.99 ($31.00) that had been on offer about a week ago but was still in stock.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;
