It is fine for working on the files locally, but for long term storage, they need somewhere else that is also fast to access and copy in to\/out from.<\/p>\n<p>So the idea of a NAS is born, not for the first time I will have you know. I have thought about storing the files on my media server, but with only a 1Gbit interface it takes a while to copy files in and out.<\/p>\n<p>This new NAS is going to require 10Gbit as a minimum and this will also require some additional network infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>To that end I found a Unifi Aggregation switch on Ebay for \u00a3195.00 (retails at around \u00a3300.00) so I snapped it up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Unifi-Aggregation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-353 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Unifi-Aggregation-300x74.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"74\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Unifi-Aggregation-300x74.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Unifi-Aggregation-768x189.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Unifi-Aggregation.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I was thinking about using an HP Z420 motherboard (about \u00a345.00) as the backbone of the server with an Intel Xeon E5-2695 v2 (CPU Mark 13497) 2.40GHz 12 core 24 thread CPU (about \u00a350.00). but then I found a SuperMicro X9DRD-iF server motherboard on Ebay with 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2630 v2 (CPU Mark 7508) 2.60GHz 6 core 12 thread CPUs and 16GB RAM for \u00a3116.00.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.44.26.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-354 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.44.26-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.44.26-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.44.26-768x603.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.44.26.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This has a built in IPMI interface and more connections than I will probably ever need.<\/p>\n<p>I found a Corsair 460T mid tower case on Facebook Marketplace for \u00a360.00.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.48.16.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-355 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.48.16-237x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.48.16-237x300.png 237w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-02-at-13.48.16.png 633w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/><\/a>The motherboard is X-ATX in size but has a non standard mounting hole pattern, however I still managed to get 6 of the 9 holes to line up in the case.<\/p>\n<p>The case itself is a fair bit bigger than I would have liked, but I can easily fit 16 x 3.5&#8243;
