Upgrades &#8211; Unifi Protect and Network Re-Design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not long after Installing the CCTV cameras, Ubiquiti brought out some new cloud keys, one of which has a built in NVR and runs their new Protect CCTV software, this being the <a href=\"https:\/\/unifi-protect.ui.com\/cloud-key-gen2\">UCK-G2-PLUS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/UCK-G2-PLUS.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"500\" data-original-width=\"500\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/UCK-G2-PLUS-300x300.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>This NVR is constantly recording from all of your attached cameras and comes with an internal 1TB drive, it also functions as a Unifi Cloud Key for all of your other Unifi devices.<\/p>\n<p>The switch from Unifi Video to Unifi Protect was pretty seamless and is covered off by a <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ubnt.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360005898593-UniFi-Protect-How-to-Migrate-from-UniFi-Video-3-to-UniFi-Protect\">Ubiquiti help article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ubnt.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360008976393-UniFi-How-to-Migrate-from-Cloud-Key-Gen-1-to-Cloud-Key-Gen-2\">Ubiquiti help article<\/a> for migrating from a Gen 1 cloud key to a Gen 2 cloud key.<\/p>\n<p>I have also been playing about with some of the connectivity in the house, increasing my collection of access points, switches and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mocalliance.org\/MoCA2\/index.htm\">MoCA 2.0<\/a> network adapters and playing around with how it is all connected, trying to achieve maximum throughput everywhere in the house.<\/p>\n<p>The initial setup was somewhat wasteful of network ports and also of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mocalliance.org\/MoCA2\/index.htm\">MoCA 2.0<\/a>&nbsp;network adapters.<\/p>\n<p>It was also not great for the lounge or my children&#8217;s bedrooms as they were dependent on wireless mesh connectivity.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mocalliance.org\/MoCA2\/index.htm\">MoCA 2.0<\/a>&nbsp;compliant 8 way cable TV splitter unit from the USA via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">eBay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/Screenshot-2B2019-05-31-2Bat-2B15.14.17.png\" style=\"margin-left: the various rooms that I had wired with coax from a central point in the loft.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a left\">Unfortunately cable the lounge was not playing nicely with the rest of the setup and caused the other&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mocalliance.org\/MoCA2\/index.htm\">MoCA 2.0<\/a>&nbsp;network adapters to disconnect due poor connectivity.<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: left\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: left\">The same was happening with the connection to the cinema room, so I decided to run a cable from the office to the cinema room and leave the lounge wireless.<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a left\">As you can tell from the various Visio diagrams, some were created prior to the cloud key upgrade as they still show the original Gen 1 cloud
