text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/divisionmaster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-36 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/divisionmaster-288x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/divisionmaster-288x300.jpg 288w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/divisionmaster-768x800.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/divisionmaster.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>One day I stumbled upon a thread on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnczone.com\/forums\/open-source-controller-boards\/47007-rotary-table-indexer.html\">CNCZone<\/a>, where one of the members, Kwackers (Steve Ward), had built something similar back in 2007 and was willing to share the design with the other members of the forum.<\/p>\n<p>I read the entire thread and also located his personal web page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldofward.com\/\">World of Ward<\/a>, where he currently maintains all of the documentation for this project and also provides firmware downloads and even sells completed boards.<\/p>\n<p>Steve provides a full schematic for the latest version of his controller that shows circuitry for various optional extras that I was not going to need.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/Screen-2BShot-2B2016-05-08-2Bat-2B08.03.11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/Screen-2BShot-2B2016-05-08-2Bat-2B08.03.11-300x189.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/Screen-2BShot-2B2016-05-08-2Bat-2B08.03.11-300x189.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/Screen-2BShot-2B2016-05-08-2Bat-2B08.03.11-768x485.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/Screen-2BShot-2B2016-05-08-2Bat-2B08.03.11.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The design makes use of a through soldered double sided board that is 54&#215;33 holes (90x150mm).<\/p>\n<p>The board was bought from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">ebay<\/a> seller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/usr\/eachdesk\">eachdesk<\/a>\u00a0at a cost of \u00a32.78 ($4.17) for 2 boards or \u00a31.39 (2.085) each.<\/p>\n<p>The design calls for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microchip.com\/wwwproducts\/en\/PIC18F452\">PIC18F452<\/a> microcontroller chip, which was one I did not already have, so I placed a sample order with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microchip.com\/\">Microchip<\/a>\u00a0and about a week later 3 units turned up for free.<\/p>\n<p>The screen was ordered from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">ebay<\/a>\u00a0seller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/usr\/144mph\">144mph<\/a>\u00a0for a cost of \u00a35.73 ($8.60) for 2 or \u00a32.86 ($4.30) each.<\/p>\n<p>The 12mm tactile buttons came from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">ebay<\/a>\u00a0seller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/usr\/fzeroinestore\">fzeroinestore<\/a> for a cost of \u00a31.39 ($2.08) for 50 or \u00a30.03 ($0.04) each.<\/p>\n<p>The 12mm button caps came from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">ebay<\/a>\u00a0seller\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/usr\/deal24hours_ca\">deal24hours_ca<\/a>\u00a0for a cost of \u00a31.99 ($3.00) for 140 or \u00a30.01 ($0.02) each.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for the double sided board is so that I can place the buttons on one side and have all of the components on the rear, many of the connections make use of the holes to allow the wire to change from one side of the board to the other.<\/p>\n<p>To allow the screen to be removable I decided that the simplest option was to make use of 2 single row 6 pin Dupont connectors and 90 degree pin headers on the LCD itself.<\/p>\n<p>I skipped all of the optional circuitry as well as the voltage regulator, as I would be using an off-board DC-DC switch mode buck converter to drop the 19V laptop power supply to the required 5V for the controller.<\/p>\n<p>This buck converter would also be supplying the 5V supply to the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/electronics\/2016\/05\/08\/pminmo-toshiba-6560ahq-stepper-driver\/\">PMinMO stepper driver<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Component side (rear) of finished board<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;
