Completing the Build"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is finally time for my old printer to bite the dust, it was really starting to look very sorry for itself.<\/p>\n<p>I also wanted to reuse some of the parts for the new Hadron.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a photo showing the dismantled <a href=\"http:\/\/reprap.org\/wiki\/Prusa_i3\">Prusa i3<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-76\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/05\/Hadron31-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/05\/Hadron31-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/05\/Hadron31-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/05\/Hadron31.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/div>\n<p>I downloaded the latest version of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.repetier.com\/\">Repetier<\/a>\u00a0firmware after using their website to generate a suitable configuration.h file, and uploaded the firmware to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchip.com\/wwwproducts\/en\/ATmega2560\">ATmega2560<\/a> board using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arduino.cc\/\">Arduino<\/a> IDE.<\/p>\n<p>I was then able to connect to the printer via the USB connection.<\/p>\n<p>I powered up the 12V PSU, heard a &#8216;snap&#8217; and saw a small plume of magic smoke, so quickly turned it off again.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow I had managed to wire up the connections to the 12V PSU backwards, so I had probably just fried one or more of the following items: the protection diode, the voltage regulator, the fuses and possibly even a mosfet.<\/p>\n<p>After correcting the wiring issue, I powered it up again &#8211; no more magic smoke, but the board will also not do very much either at this point.<\/p>\n<p>I will have a closer look at the board to see if it is salvageable at some point, in the mean time I have ordered a Ramps 1.6 board which should be a significant upgrade anyway and less prone to having the power contacts melt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is finally time for my old printer to bite the dust, it was really starting to look very sorry for itself.
