opening thoughts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have decided that my next printer will be a delta printer, and although I have come up with numerous designs, the most recent one seems to be verging towards that of a <a href=\"http:\/\/reprap.org\/wiki\/Kossel\">Kossel Mini<\/a>, so why not simply build a variant of one of these and have done with it.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; Something like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk\/en\/products\/m4x25-socket-button-screw-high-tensile-grade-10-9-bright-zinc-plated-iso-7380\">M4x25mm Allen Socket Button Screws<\/a>\u00a0are \u00a33.72 ($5.80) for 100, I just order multiples of 100 as I use them up pretty fast anyway.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As such I will allow a fairly generous figure of \u00a310.00 for nuts, bolts and washers, bringing our total thus far to around \u00a3120.00.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I do not want to use a heated bed, so this will save huge amounts of power and I will be able to use one of my many surplus laptop power supplies as a power source.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The print bed will be an 8mm disc of acrylic that has been sanded on one side to give a frosted appearance, this should allow PLA prints to stick yet still be removable once the print completes &#8211; a 175mm disc of 8mm acrylic can be had on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">Ebay<\/a>\u00a0for \u00a310.70 ($16.70).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>I am intending to try the Acetal Slider from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.motedis.co.uk\/shop\/Dynamics-Basics\/Profile-Glide\/Slider-B-Type-Slot-6::99999563.html\">Motedis<\/a>\u00a0instead of linear rails, I am not aware of anyone trying this idea before, and I have no idea how well it will work &#8211; it may have way too much slop to be of any real use, but at only \u00a31.74 ($2.71) per axis, they have to be worth a try.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Bslider.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-213 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Bslider-289x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Bslider-289x300.jpg 289w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Bslider.jpg 534w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>If this does not work, then I can use their Acetal\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.motedis.co.uk\/shop\/Dynamics-Basics\/Rollers\/Roller-%D8-29mm-B-Type-slot-6::99999566.html\">rollers<\/a> instead, these are designed to run in the 6mm slot on the side of the 20x20mm profile, these are \u00a32.67 ($4.17) each, and I would need 9 or more, so I think it is worth the shot on the sliders first, many people have made alternate carriages to run on similar wheels\/rollers, so I should be able to adapt one of these fairly simply.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Broller.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-214 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Broller-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Broller-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Broller-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/12\/acetal-2Broller.jpg 333w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Then there is always the fallback option of Chinese Linear rails at $58.00 (\u00a337.18) from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robotdigg.com\/product\/164\/China-Made-MGN-12H-L400-hardened-Steel-Rail-and-Carriage-for-Kossel\">Robotdigg<\/a>\u00a0for a set of 3 x 400mm rails and carriages.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Even if end up I trying all 3 options, the total cost should still be well below the target of \u00a3200.00.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have decided that my next printer will be a delta printer, and although I have come up with numerous designs, the most recent one seems to be verging towards that of a Kossel Mini, so why not simply build a variant of one of these and have done with it.
