{"id":11,"date":"2020-03-09T22:19:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-09T22:19:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2023-01-07T19:05:30","modified_gmt":"2023-01-07T19:05:30","slug":"following-long-period-of-storage-being","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/3dprinters\/2020\/03\/following-long-period-of-storage-being.html","title":{"rendered":"A new printer on the horizon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a long period of storage (being relegated to the garage), my <a href=\"https:\/\/reprap.org\/wiki\/Prusa_i3\">Prusa i3<\/a> copy was not doing so well, several of the printed parts were failing, or close to failing and needed to be replaced.<\/p>\n<p>A work colleague had asked me to print a couple of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thingiverse.com\/thing:2703606\">vesa mounts <\/a>for some HP screens, so I glued some of the parts back together and printed enough replacements to get the printer working again.<\/p>\n<p>I was then able to print him 2 of the the vesa mounts.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-108\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/Screenshot-2B2020-03-09-2Bat-2B20.24.24-300x266.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/Screenshot-2B2020-03-09-2Bat-2B20.24.24-300x266.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/Screenshot-2B2020-03-09-2Bat-2B20.24.24-768x680.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/Screenshot-2B2020-03-09-2Bat-2B20.24.24.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The above picture is not actually my print, but one from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thingiverse.com\/thing:2703606\">Thingiverse<\/a>, I forgot to take any photos of my prints, but they looked exactly the same and were also printed in white filament.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst attempting to print an enclosure for my <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/electronics\/2016\/05\/08\/division-controller\/\">Division Controller<\/a> electronics, the printer failed again and I was by now really struggling with the fact that the Y axis was bent and I could not get the bed level enough for a large print.<\/p>\n<p>I decided it was time for an upgrade to something a bit more substantial and had settled on an Ord Bot Hadron the big brother of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buildlog.net\/blog\/2012\/01\/the-quantum-ord-bot\/\">Quantum<\/a> as designed by Bart Dring from <a href=\"http:\/\/buildlog.net\/\">Buildlog.net<\/a>, the same designer as my\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hslracing.com\/co2laser\/\">CO2 Laser<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; Bart claimed on his blog that the Quantum was stiff enough that he could stand on it!<\/p>\n<p>I won an auction on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/\">Ebay<\/a>\u00a0for a set of 1\/8&#8243; (3.175mm) powder coated aluminium plates for $50.00 (\u00a338.36) which even with the $17.26 shipping and $17.00 customs charges (total UK landed cost \u00a365.40)\u00a0is still a fraction of the cost of buying the parts from elsewhere.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;
